There are eight major sections in the grade 11 Social Studies course and a Christian worldview insert has been designed for each major section. The insert is designed to connect directly to the subject matter and in doing so, bring in a dimension of thought that is not contained in the course material. The inserts in this grade 11 course encourage the student to think upon such things as the Christian's dual citizenship as being both earthly and heavenly, government as a Divine institution, the issue of war and human nature, the human condition and its cause, the mystery of evil, the concept of justice, stability in a rapidly changing world and the Christian as one filled with hope. The inserts are located at the beginning of each chapter exercise section. (The SKILLS section is the exception, in that the insert is located at the end). The content of the inserts has no relationship to what one needs to know for the Provincial Exam in Social studies 11. Students in this course will apply the processes of critical thinking to their studies. They will research information, being able to access and assess information found. They will collect, evaluate, organize and present their research appropriately. Throughout their studies, students will demonstrate skills and attitudes of active citizenship, including ethical behaviour, open-mindedness, respect for diversity, and collaboration. In this course students will study: Government The First World War The Interwar Years The Second World War Post War 1946-1980 Canada 1980-2004 Quebec and Aboriginal Issues Human Geography Review for the Provincial Exam
